You Were in My Dream

You showed up in my dreams last night
I was taken back this time.
What happened was unexpected
Yet I woke up feeling more than fine.

I was talking with my family
While lounging on the couch,
When my dad came in carrying
For each of us a pouch.

We opened them up one by one
With me being last
Each gift had a precious ring
But mine was just as mask.

I put the ring on my finger
But the ring was too big to fit
I laughed inside thinking
"This has to be a slip."

But then I heard a voice
One I had heard so many times before
A voice I thought I recognized
But I couldn't be for sure.

Then a line of my friends
Came pouring from the kitchen
I felt so confused
There was something I was missin.

But then you walked out
In front of my family
In your very best suit
And got down on one knee.

I couldn't believe my eyes
My mouth dropped as I looked at you
You began to speak
And I knew my dreams were coming true.

I woke up before I answered
Maybe wishing it was real
But my heart was pumping fast
Trying not to explode with zeal

I thought of this dream many times today
Wondering what my answer would have been
But guess we will have to wait
Until you ask again.

Tye Dyed

The swirls of colors distract me
Making my head twirl
My eyes burn
I have lost all since of time
Can't tell up from down

I need help, ASAP
Like a giggly little girl
And now its my turn
I'm stuck in this crime
I feel lost in this town

Please call a referee
Who just found a pearl
To show what I have learned
Like a boxed up mime
I'm an unwanted clown

To keep me unlocked and free
With such a beautiful swirl
Will the favor be returned
Trying to earn a dime
Trying not to frown

Real World?

When we are young we can't wait to grow up.
To drive a REAL car,
To get an education at a REAL college,
And eventually, to work a REAL job.

We go through life to prepare for the REAL WORLD.
But what does that REALly mean?
What is this REAL WORLD we live in?
When does it begin?

I've taken all the classes.
I've gone to the interviews.
I've waited for the phone call,
Hoping to hear REAL good news.

But this REAL WORLD has surprised me.
Not exactly what I expected after walking that stage.
I was excited to be free and begin my career,
But instead its turned a different page.

What happened to my childhood views,
Of being mentored to learn the ins and outs.
My growing dreams have been shattered,
Leaving me with many horrid doubts.

What I have learned these past few years,
Is not at all what I expected.
Instead of learning from the best
I'm working with adult children completely disconnected.

So this REAL WORLD I dreamed of has lost its appeal.
But I won't join the others and become a child again.
I've grown up and I'm ready to change this world
Even though it feels like I'm working in a loony bin.

Doors

I have earned so many keys
Now I'm just waiting for the right door.
They seem to swing so freely
Yet I'm a prisoner of war.

I want to make the right decision
To take the final dive
But what if the choice I make,
Makes it hard to survive.

So here I wait
For the right door to unlock
But until then
I continue to stand and knock.

Dear Dreams,

What is going on?
You keep playing with my head
Making it bitter sweet to sleep
As I am laying in my bed.

These thoughts keep me tossing
Wondering if you will come true.
Please give me some rest,
Forget this deja vu.

Sweet baby girl
Growing so fast
Welcome to your family
Its wonderful to meet you at last

My dear niece
You are greatly loved
Knitted together carefully
By your Father up above

With some helpful advice
To help you in the future
So you don't have to think twice

Your Mom and Dad love you
More than you will ever know
You may not agree with what they say
But your respect for them will grow

GranPop and Big Daddy
Can't wait to hold your hands
To protect you every moment
And support your every plans

Grandma and YaYa
With love, care and fun
Can't wait to spoil you
Enjoying their time one on one

But don't forget your aunts
Kari, Carlyn, Emmalee
We are here for you 100 percent
Encouraging you completely

Life my get difficult at times
But your family is around
We'll be there if you fall
To pick you up from the ground

We love you more than words can say
But you may not always believe it
Watching you grow will be a blessing
And on you we will never quit

Torn

I am torn, torn in two
Maybe it’s the sleep deprivation
From a fun night turn difficult
Maybe from a growing frustration.

This lump in my throat in growing
My tears are all dry
I've lost the zeal to carry on
I wonder why I even try.
I think of the phone calls received
About all the things that go wrong
Blown away by the comments
Wishing I was emotionally strong.

I care more than they know
And do my best to follow through
Which makes me feel my situation
Is like a sinking canoe.
Brutally tossed by the waves
My believed support floating away
Losing will to carry on
Knowing all I can do is pray.

I feel lost and confused,
What is Your desire for me?
Do I go right or left,
This is my plea!

I am torn, torn in two
I feel like giving up.
I think of those I'd have to face,
And would rather pass that cup.
What would be easiest for me,
Would not best honor You,
Its all in Your hands,
I am torn in two.
